Color Chip Choices For Railing Inserts

I'll be building 4 railing inserts for a front porch in Alabama. The customer has provided this photo of her shutters & rough-hewn wood to be used in the new construction. The powder-coat color chips were provided by Steel F-X to help make the decision.

#3 & 4 of the Set of Railing Inserts

Finally finished all four of these panels today.
They weigh about 100# each & I'm glad they're
done. It was a lot...no, it was a LOT of work.

Log Cabin Steel Railing Inserts

These are 2 of 4 panels (railing inserts) that I designed from customer-provided digital photos. The best photos of these panels will come after they have been installed in the log home in Brianhead, Cedar Mountain, Utah.

The difficulty in translating or digitizing a photo to an architectural panel such as these is keeping all voids & spaces under 4" (horizontal). Building codes dictate that no railing can have a horizontal space greater than 4" & in some states & counties it's 4-1/2". So, you have to use your imagination a little from these photos which I made into a movie/slideshow.

They are Plasma-Torch-Cut from 3/16" plate steel, polished, ground, acid-etched, colorized with chemicals & clear-coated with the same UV Clear-Coat product used on new cars.

I will be adding the 3rd & 4th panel photos by tomorrow. One is an abstract of icicles hanging on tree branches & the last one is a bull & cow elk standing in the pine trees. stay tuned...
